15 Ways to Add Positive Energy to Your Home

Your home is meant to be a place to relax. A place where you can feel your most comfortable. With the occasional trials we all face, itโ€™s helpful always to have a tranquil space where you can feel at peace. If you agree, your home and the items in it need to burst at the seams with positive energy, love, and warmth.

โ€œWe live as ripples of energy in the vast ocean of energy.โ€ – Deepak Chopra

Here are 15 ways to add positive energy to your home:

1. Add life with pets

Animals in the house are not for everyone. But, for anyone who enjoys them โ€“ they can be a great way to bring more positive energy into your life.

Adopting an animal can help you feel more relaxed and even add more happiness to your life. Animals are very loving and affectionate creatures. In fact, one look at your family pet can raise your spirits right away. Having a pet is also a great idea if you live by yourself. It gives you someone to talk to and love when you need it most. And the best part? If you like them, they will love you back unconditionally!

2. Himalayan salt rock lamps

Himalayan salt rocks are large crystal rocks that are commonly used in salt lamps. These are beautiful lamps that typically have an incandescent bulb or candle inside. What people love about these lamps is that they give off a lovely glow.

The beauty and tranquility of the lamp allow individuals to focus on positive energies, which would enable them to heal mentally and physically. It is also believed that Himalayan Salt Rocks transfer the negative ions in the air, making room for more positivity!

3. Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a type of alternative medicine that uses soothing plant materials to alter a personโ€™s mood, mind, mental state, or health. This popular alternative therapy often involves many different varieties of essential oils. Certain oils work to relieve stress, freshen your mind, or even set a particular mood. For example, oils associated with lemon, lime, peppermint, spearmint, and cypress are commonly used to cleanse and purify negative thoughts. Using these oils to purge your negative thoughts is going to allow you to embrace happiness and get back to enjoying your home.

4. Enliven your living space with plants

Plants are, indeed, a great source of life and positive energy.ย  Plants take CO2 and toxins out of the air.ย  They also contribute to positive energy by adding oxygen and moisture. ย  According to researchers at Kansas State University, plants can also help speed recovery toward optimal health.

Plants enhance the warmth and coziness of your home, but they do so much more. Plants also clean the air and replenish the oxygen inside your home, but they also remove toxins from the air. Itโ€™s essential to choose plants that arenโ€™t high maintenance. Otherwise, this adds extra work to your already busy life. Instead, choose plants that practically take care of themselves. Based on a study of 50 houseplants, these nine plants were listed as the most effective in removing toxins, easy to grow, insect resistant, and not quick to dry out.

  • Areca palm
  • Lady’s palm
  • Bamboo palm
  • Rubber plant
  • Dracaena
  • English Ivy
  • Dwarf Date Palm
  • Ficus
  • Peace lily

Plants enhance every room of your home. So, why not add a plant or two to your living room, bedroom, or kitchen? Youโ€™ll be surprised at the hypnotic effect a green plant will have on your homeโ€™s atmosphere.

5. Remove clutter for a free mind

If your home is cluttered, it can affect your mind.ย  A study in the Journal of Neuroscience found that being surrounded by a lot of clutter hinders your brainโ€™s ability to process and think clearly. What your mom told you is accurate. Too many things piled up can be distracting. They can suppress your brainโ€™s ability to function because they compete for your attention.ย  The easiest way to eliminate clutter is to go room to room in your house, removing items that are broken, stained, or you donโ€™t use anymore.

Create two piles. In one, you’ll save items that you can donate to a worthy charity or person in need. In the second pile, you’ll discard anything that is no longer in good condition.

Donโ€™t give in to thoughts like, โ€œI may use it someday.โ€ This will short-circuit your reasonable efforts.ย  Be quick to trash the throwaway pile and bag up the giveaway pile. It may take several go-rounds to simplify and declutter your house, but you will be surprised how much stuff you donโ€™t need and much better your feel once the extra clutter is gone. Your brain will thank you for it.

6. Open the windows to let in the relaxing sounds of nature

Letting fresh air into your homes eliminates air pollution and improves air quality. Another advantage of open windows is being able to hear the relaxing sounds of nature. Historically people have found mental and physical benefits from seeing life. It affects our emotions, our moods, and our minds. But one study found that hearing sounds of nature were as crucial as the visual experience. If possible, open your windows every day to allow the sounds of nature to relieve your stress and pick up your mood.

7. Maximize sunshine and light

Sunlight is nature’s gift of positive energy. Lighten up the curtains at your windows to let more sunshine in. Dark curtains block the sunโ€™s rays from entering your home.ย  Wash the windows to remove dust or grime. Itโ€™s surprising how these simple things will allow sunshine to flood into your home and brighten your mood. A brighter room is inviting and relaxing and more peaceful.

8.ย  Paint the front door red to attract abundance into your life

Colors affect our mood. Feng Shui is a philosophy of your environment and how it affects you. It literally means โ€œwind and water,โ€ two major natural elements that affect your life. In feng shui, color is important. The color red signifies power, strength, or protection.

In studies, psychologists found that red also signifies status in some countries like the United States and China. Painting your door red is often a sign of welcome and friendliness for guests. A red door offsets almost any exterior color of your house. Red invites guests to come into your home and find refuge away from all the negativity in the world.

9. Set the tone of positivity with uplifting music

We all know that listening to music can improve your mood and create a positive atmosphere in your home. Besides listening to uplifting music, be sure to sing along. In a recent NIH study, researchers found that singing stimulates regions of your brain that donโ€™t often get stimulated, causing them to be more active. Researchers hope to use this study and others to learn more about the power of music on our brains. Meanwhile, put on some of your favorite tunes and sing along.

10. Use crystals that boost positive energy in your home

Crystals are not only beautiful to look at, but they also promote your positivity and help fight anxiety. Today, 40 million adults suffer from some kind of anxiety. Crystals are a natural way to remove negative energy and bring balance to your mental, physical, and spiritual unrest. Place crystals throughout your home to enhance a positive mood and fight any anxiety you may feel. Different crystals possess different powers, so research the ones that would best help you.

11. Create a sacred space within your home

Find a relaxing spot in your home where you can read religious readings, meditate, or pray. Choose a spot near a window so you can enjoy nature and sunshine while you read or pray. This should be a place of refuge and rest from your daily demands. Keep the area tidy and free of work. Keep your electronics out of the zone, so youโ€™re not distracted by incoming emails or texts. Itโ€™s a place to clear your mind and pour your heart to God and a place for you to recharge.

pray away stress

12. Remove your shoes when inside the home–and put them away.

Removing your shoes inside your home shows respect and care for your home. Shoes track in dirt and dust from outside. Not wearing shoes inside will keep your house cleaner, preserve your wood floors, and be less noisy too. Be sure to have a spot to house the shoes-a rack or basket. Shoes scattered inside the door break up the flow of chi, they positive energy force.ย  (And, you don’t want to trip over them, either!)

13. Burn sage to keep positive energy

Burning sage improves the positive energy of your home. It also cleanses the air of toxins and impurities, so there is a double benefit when you burn fragrant sage. Some people find that burning sage once a week is a good practice for cleansing their homes. Some people burn sage as part of a religious ritual or prayer time.

14. Repaint the walls with a fresh coat of paint

Nothing refreshes your home like a fresh coat of paint. Dirty, smudged walls block positivity and create a feeling of unrest. A room with dirty walls isnโ€™t comfortable. For fun, choose an uplifting color on one wall of your living room, bedroom, or kitchen. Colors like navy blue, red, or green add a pop of color and can enhance any roomโ€™s atmosphere.

Here is a quick breakdown of how different colors impact the mind, according to the color experts at Benjamin Moore:

  • White: White represents a blank canvas, a clean slate, or purity. It’s a go-to neutral for it’s clean look.
  • Navy blue: Navy evokes feelings of grandeur and drama.
  • Light blue and green: These colors make one reminisce of nature, grass, flowers, the sky, and water. We feel relaxed.
  • Pink and lavender: Pink and lavender shades uplift us when we feel gloomy and add a pop of positivity into your space.
  • Gray: Gray lends any room an air of calm and soothes the nerves.
  • Beige, taupe, tan: These brown neutrals remind us of the Earth itself, allowing us to feel connected to nature even when indoors.
  • Red: As we discussed, red is a shade that evokes feelings of abundance, warmth, and welcoming.
  • Purple: In early humankind, purple was the color of royalty. Today, we perceive it as dramatic, elegant, and powerful. It can be a showstopper of a color.

Painting does not require experience. Itโ€™s an economical way to boost your homeโ€™s positive energy without breaking the bank.

15. Furniture positions are important

Furniture placement is critical for positive energy flow. Keep your furniture a few inches away from the walls. Angle chairs whenever possible. These simple techniques allow proper flow and balance for your living room or bedroom. An open flow makes a room more welcoming and less cluttered.

Itโ€™s surprising how something as easy as moving a piece of furniture away from the wall can change the feel of the entire room. Try different configurations in the room until you find one that you like.

Ask a friend for their thoughts on how the room feels; they can give you a more objective opinion. Or, to get an objective view of the room, take a photo with your phone. This removes you from the setting and allows you to see the space as an observer.

Final Thoughts On Cultivating Positive Energy in Your Home

Your home is a sanctuary away from the stress and busyness of the outside world. Creating a positive atmosphere isnโ€™t too tricky. Simple things like adding plants, painting your front door red, getting rid of clutter, using crystals, or giving your rooms a fresh coat of paint can go a long way in enhancing the positive energy in your home.

Donโ€™t try to do all these things at once. Instead, implement one or two things every week until you experience a more positive atmosphere. You may find that one change, like finding a spot to meditate every day, will do more than trying to incorporate everything at once.ย  You may do other things to enhance the positive energy of your home. That’s fine. The goal is to make your home a positive, comfortable,ย  healthy place for you and your family to enjoy.

I have a dog and plants; my decorating style is minimalist, with a theme, lots of wicker. Very positive and very restful.

  9. Thank You so much for this, great ideas. I would also like to add that you can use flower petals as well for cleansing and of course having flowers around your house will help as well. peace comes from the quality of thoughts…if we dont change our negative thoughts and habits no physical changes can bring lasting peace. change thinking and action with contemplation…think and act good for others and peace naturally comes.

I have the lamp, got it @ Wegmans, the scented candle warmer, 2 dogs & a cat, also a Betta fish. Still need to be more positive, really like all your quotations. Need to be more positive. Trying like heck. Maybe I’ll get there someday. I’ve had awful things happen. It’s so very hard to keep picking myself up. Need more.

    1. The solution begins with re-programming. Read your comment again and ask, “where is this coming from”? Of course it’s coming from somewhere. Now in retrospect, re-word the comment so that every negative word is a positive one. Something like this:

“I have the lamp, got it @ Wegmans, the scented candle warmer, 2 dogs & a cat, also a betta fish. I’m consistently discovering my own power of positivity every day, and like all your quotations. I become more positive every day and am putting in the effort to make that happen, because I am not what happened to me, but what I choose to become. I look forward to receiving daily!

  22. thanks for adding this one. am not sure dis wil make great deviation in ones thought but which has a positive power to enhance our mental strength

Thank you! So many negative posts on Facebook, but this one was just what I needed today even though I already do all these things. You've inspired me to go get more salt lamps and peppermint essential oil and some house plants, now that I've kicked my cats outside for peeing on things. They can be positive and inspiring in the garage. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  24. I’ve also added a water fountain and a small aquarium with 1 betta fish as well as bamboo plants, Feng Shui practices have made a difference in my home environment and my well being…

    1. Awesome! We used to have a betta, it was such a peaceful creature.

  25. I have all three, 2 loving dogs, 2 Himalayan salt lamps and a collection of essential oils…

I love to burn scented candles. As a lot of us probably know, Lavender can be a very relaxing scent ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Love to put lavender on our collar at night – great for sleep! Also, try out essential oils on a warmer instead of a candle for a stronger, longer lasting scent. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  27. Great post! I have also found the moving water adds much to a room, whether it’s an aquarium or water fountain. Feng shui practices can make all the difference in the world ๐Ÿ™‚
