Coconut oil gets a lot of attention these days, and for good reason. Not only does it make a great addition to certain foods, but it can easily replace many of your traditional beauty products. Below, we’ll discuss some of the best ways to use coconut oil, and by the time you’re done reading, you’ll want to get rid of all your name-brand products and stock up on a few jars of the stuff!

Here are 10 ways coconut oil can help you look younger!

1. Add it to your toothpaste or try oil pulling.

Coconut oil naturally whitens teeth and contains antibacterial elements that will keep your mouth fresh and healthy. If you want to make your own toothpaste, simply mix melted coconut oil, baking soda and your favorite essential oils together. Store in a jar and enjoy a natural toothpaste that both lasts longer and keeps more money in your pocket!

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic mouth-cleansing technique that draws toxins from the body and can even get rid of cavities. All you need to do is take a spoonful of oil and swish it in your mouth for about 20 minutes. Then, brush your teeth as normal. 20 minutes is a long time for beginners, so start out with a couple minutes at a time until you work your way up.

2. Make your own deodorant.

Combine one part coconut oil, one part baking soda, and one part arrowroot powder or cornstarch. Add your favorite essential oils to your liking for a fresh scent.

Note: when you switch to a more natural deodorant, you may notice that you need to reapply it more often. This is because traditional deodorants clog your pores and prevent you from sweating, which actually isn’t very healthy. You may sweat more with natural deodorant, but you’ll be healthier and toxin-free. 🙂

3. Use it as a natural makeup remover.

Not only does coconut oil add moisture to the skin, but putting some on a cotton ball will remove makeup naturally without all the added chemicals that clog your pores and dry out skin. After removing the makeup, wash your face off with warm water and dry with a soft towel.

4. Make a skin moisturizer.

Repeat what you did in #3, except you’ll want to leave some of the oil on your skin and not wash it with water. You won’t need lotion or face cream any longer – just use coconut oil! The nutrients will keep your skin looking vibrant and healthy, plus it smells great and can help prevent wrinkles.

5. Use it in your hair conditioner.

Make sure you shampoo your hair first to wash out any dirt or bacteria. Now, let’s get started on the conditioner recipe! All you need is coconut oil, jojoba oil, and an essential oil of your choice. Combine 2 parts coconut oil, 1 part jojoba oil and the essential oil in a bowl. Once stirred thoroughly, transfer to a mason jar or other container for storage. Leave on for 3-5 minutes, then wash in cool water.

This conditioner will leave your hair feeling soft and silky, and will also help eliminate frizz due to the moisture from the oil!

6. Use it as cuticle cream.

Sometimes, our nails can get dry and brittle, especially in the winter months. However, coconut oil can help combat this by adding moisture back to our skin and nails. Simply put some on the tip of your finger and rub on your nail bed. Don’t rinse it off; just dab it lightly with a paper towel so some of it stays on your nails.

7. Make your own body butter.take care of yourself quote

Kick up your lotion regimen a notch with a natural body butter! All you need is coconut oil, optional essential oils, and a hand mixer or electric mixer. Combine ingredients and whip them up for 5 minutes, and voila, you have just made your own body butter that will hydrate your skin and keep it looking smooth and healthy.

8. Use it as sunscreen.

Did you know that coconut oil contains an SPF of around 5-7? Though you shouldn’t use it for long periods in the sun, it works fine for a short walk or jog outside. You could also combine it with zinc oxide, which helps to reflect light away from your skin.

9. Make a natural insect repellent.

Add 25 drops of lemongrass essential oil to 1/4 cup coconut oil and slather on the skin to keep the critters away. This one may not help you look younger directly, but it could prevent you from getting bitten by bugs that carry potentially deadly diseases, which by default will help keep you young!

10. Use it as shaving cream.

Coconut oil doesn’t need much heat for it to melt, so keeping a jar in the shower will do the job just fine. Once it is soft to the touch, lather some of it up and rub on the area you want to shave. This makes a great non-toxic version of shaving cream and will leave your skin smooth and radiant.

I use it to take my make up off. Use it after I get out of the shower while my skin is still wet. Then I dry off and my skin is soft all day.

    1. Yes, it is wonderful for many different uses!
